Ok, so you took my advice and started a new workout/fitness program!! Go you!! That is awesome. Now comes the part where we have mapped out our eating, printed a calendar out and are ready to get started. Gung HO for about three weeks. MEH MEH MEH! Than… you get sidetracked. Life happens. Careers happen. Eating happens… Where to now??? Fortunately for us, we can re-start out work out program and all that healthy eating. But how can we stay on track with the workout program while tackling life??? How do you stay on track when starting a new fitness program?
Staying on Track
Did you know the average fitness program is 60-90 days in length?? Yup! That means that once you pick your fitness routine you get at least 3 months to perfect it and get results. The reason that programs are designed like this is that the average time that it takes to start seeing any kind of results from an outsider’s perspective is 8 weeks.
Although some it may take longer inside your body and your mind it is doing amazing things. Your brain is working in ways that maybe it hasn’t before and your body is getting much stronger and working in ways that you never thought possible!
I’m sure you have heard that saying “It takes 4 weeks to see your body changing, It takes 8 weeks for your friends and family to see the changes, It takes 12 weeks for the rest of the world to notice, KEEP GOING!”
This is such a true statement!! Your body was built to withstand some crazy things and the potential that it has to build is based on you as a complete and whole person. It is so easy to say “Ok I did one month of working out and clean eating, I think I’m good for now.” And then you slip back into your old habits and wait for the next time to come around.
Let me tell you girl “I HAVE BEEN THERE!” I have stopped and started programs numerous times and went to the gym and didn’t go to the gym. Or eating an apple one day and a donut the next and IT IS HARD! How can us mommas stay on track and realize our potential to be the best version of ourselves?
It took me a long time to figure this out. After trying and failing so many times I finally realized that I needed this for me. It wasn’t for anyone else, it was for me. I went through multiple workouts and changed it up so many times that I wasn’t consistent enough to see change.
As I was looking in my emails I noticed a Beachbody email that said there was a new program coming. I clicked on it and was kind of taken aback because I looked extremely intense. I let it scroll by and kept looking but I kept going back to that same program. After about the tenth scroll, I caved and began the program.
My workout was the highlight of my day and after I was done with my work out I would feel amazing! I was ready to conquer the world. I had so much more energy and I slept like a rock!
80 Day Obsession I would have to say was the turning point for me. It was hard, and I had to stay so disciplined in eating and my workouts that after 80 days of working out it became like a habit to me. I pushed and kept going when it got hard.
Wake up, look at my meal plan, exercise, go about my day repeat. And it worked!! I was able to stay on track with my fitness program because it fit my lifestyle. The program was laid out functionally so that you can stick with your meal planning, and daily schedule and work out on your time.
I highly recommend 80 day obsession for mom’s that need a little discipline to their routine and want an eating plan that will get results!!
Having the Right Work Out for YOU
Having the right workout/fitness program that you can relate to is so important. It’s almost like your part of the cast working out right there in your living room with a whole group of people, just trying to better ourselves. I can attest this because like you all, as I’m sure that you have also tried a video or a streamed workout and was like “Ok that was not fun.” Find one that works for you!
If you are a gym person, find the right time to go to the gym when you are at our peak of motivation. For most people its early morning. If you don’t have a gym routine there are several apps that you can download on your phone that you can use in the gym. My husband and I recently tried one with kettlebells and it worked great! It even had a timer on it and you could watch each move from your phone.
Another motivation heckler is your life, your career, and everything in between. It is so easy to just give up when everything else is going on. The reason why I choose to work out at home is that my family is all ready here with me. I can just cut out an hour of workout time and they can carry on with their routines as well. It works! Find a fitness routine that works for you and your life.
Another reason why many people try and fail at fitness routines, and I am one to attest to this, are Diets! Diets can be extremely hard to stick to, but if you eat clean and have the right amount of fruits veggies and protein you CAN succeed!! Check out my article on 5 reasons you don’t need to diet to lose weight it’ll help you pick the best diet for you and keep you on track.
Take time for You
Make time for yourself. When starting a new fitness program take time for yourself. Your going to be sore and muscle fatigue will set in. Take some quality YOU time and go get a pedicure or a massage and make it count. Take a bath in Epsom salts and essential oils and relax. When your body feels better its easier to fit in a work out that day.
Grabbing a friend or a spouse to go on a jog or to the gym is also a great motivator. I’ve had numerous people tell me that they won’t go to the gym because their buddy can’t go that day. Find a backup partner! Or if that doesn’t work take a class at the gym if your home routine didn’t fit into your schedule
that day and take in that free time. Success happens outside of your comfort zone so trying to get in that workout for the day is a must!!
Think about why you started
The end result is what matters, think about why you started your fitness program in the first place. Was it because your going on vacation and want to look fabulous in that bikini? Or was it because you’re getting married in 6 months and found the perfect wedding dress? Either way, you started your fitness program for a reason, stick to your goal and your end result will justify itself. “When you feel like quitting, think about why you started.”
And finally… Use the 21/90 rule.
It takes 21 days to create a habit. It takes 90 days to create a lifestyle. Respect your body enough to take the challenge and live the lifestyle that you’re working toward. “Be patient, your body will reward you.”
