Actually, I recently came across an article that had mentioned that nearly 65% of America’s population consumes a protein shake of some sort. I was very interested to stumble across this and led me to dive into the research behind protein powders and why so many people consume them. Because who doesn’t like the taste of milkshake every now and then? I know I do!

Did you know that protein powder comes in a ton of different varieties, they are used for muscle growth, strength training, slimming, toning, meal replacements, and weight loss. They come in Whey protien, casein protien, whey isolate protien, rice protein, hemp protein, egg protein, Vegan, Organic, Keto/diet-friendly, and Plant-based. Whew! That’s a lot! So what is the difference and why does it matter to me?
Well proteins are in their true form a whole product that has been condensed down into a smaller form. For instance you have pea protein. Pea protein is a type of protein is essentially from pea’s but broken down to the powder form and gives your body a boat load of nutrients! Although it lacks in amino acids it is effective if wanting to do a meal replacement shake.
Protein powder is complex when it comes to choosing the right one for your body. Some people might be allergic to milk (aka my husband). In this case we have to buy gluten and milk free or easy to digest protein which totally depletes the category of proteins he can consume.
Reading the labels on protein powders and finding what works with your body and body type can help you tremendously when searching for the right type of protein powder for weight loss.

Seemingly so I happen to think that the best part of Protein powder is the flavors! There are so many different options to choose from, as you will see below.

With an abundance of vitamins in most of the available protein powders, you can get a days’ worth of your vitamins in a tasty shake. The recommended daily intake of protein for people age 19 and over is 49 grams of protein a day. Seriously thats not alot, considering most protien shakes have 20-25 gm of protein in them!
Did you know that the majority of people do not meet this recommendation in a day? In my opinion, I find it easier to consume protein shakes for added nutrition and health benefits. Plus the taste is amazing and it takes less then a minute of prep!
I should also probably tell you that Protein powders are perfect for people who may have a chronic illness, or weightlifters, athletes, and even vegetarians. Many of the protein powders can contain vitamins such as which are another great way to take in vitamins without swallowing a horse pill:

So essentially in a Protein Powder with what I am trying to accomplish, I would look for Casein Powder (appetite suppressant) or Whey Protein (feel fuller longer). Wow who would have thought these powders had such amazing properties!
Enhances Muscle Gain and Toning
If you are looking to enhance your workouts or gain muscle mass while training, consuming protein powder allows your body to gain and lean out (if you will) while you are training. Of course, that’s what we are going for right!
In doing a ton of research on protein powders, many people have had success in significantly improving muscle strength when consuming protein powder before or after you exercise. It is equally effective for both men and women when paired with weightlifting, strength training or resistance training.
But how do you know if you have picked the right protien powder?

Allows for Quicker Recovery after Exercising
Many times you might find yourself feeling pretty darn drained after a workout. Sometimes you might feel really sore or stiff too. If taking in the right protien powder it has the effect to lessen the after effects of a tough workout. In turn, it can decrease muscle soreness, tiredness, and improve recovery time.
Protein can repair broken down muscle tissue and enhance muscle performance next time you train. Who would have thought that your muscles need protein and vitamins to recover? Well, I will spare you the science lesson but it is much needed in order to improve strength and conditioning.

#5 Isopure Zero Carb- Keto Friendly
Isopure Zero Carb is a 100% Whey Protein isolate. And according to Amazon ranks as high as 4 stars. This protein powder Is keto-friendly, Gluten and Lactose-Free.
The Good
Aside from being Gluten and lactose-free Isopure is sure to impress with its 25 grams of Protein. This protein powder supports a Keto or Low Carb diet. This protein powder also has a mere 100 calories per serving, which may be very enticing to some.
Isopure does offer a lot of Vitamins and Minerals in the powder which includes Vitamins A, C E and K. Isopure also contains many natural ingredients in it such as Monk fruit for sweeteners and added BCAAs to support training and performance.
They do offer a lot of flavors such as Vanilla, Tahitian Vanilla, Chocolate, Plain, Cookies and Cream, Strawberries and Cream and Bananas and cream.
Isopure does promise weight loss. I found that by consuming this product in conjunction with the Keto diet and exercise, I was able to lose 3 lbs. within the 3 weeks that I used this product. Weight training was also incorporated, and no changes were made during the 3 weeks of using this product.
The Bad
Isopure offers 25G of Protein. After consuming the protein drink, it is safe to say that it did not fulfill or satisfy the hunger even after 2 hours. We ordered the Vanilla protein shake and had to mix it with another type of Shake to get the fulfillment needed from this particular protein.
Many buyers of this product rate Isopure as tasteless or flavorless (hence the need to mix with another shake). Mixability was also rated poorly. Many people had a hard time mixing the drink in a shaker bottle leaving clumps in the drink.
The bottom Line
After drinking Isopure for a month I couldn’t find anything that I liked about the flavors. I did try it with various mix-ins such as Almond milk, coconut milk, water, and others. But there’s really nothing that makes the taste better even with plain vanilla.
But if you are looking for a low carb, the keto-friendly option with high protein content than this would be your go-to powder. As for the price it ranks in the $$. At $42-45 for a 3-pound tub, you’re more likely to get better tasting protein for the amount of money you’re going to spend.

Body fortress has been around for quite some time and offers a wide variety of pre and post-workout supplements. With advanced nutrients to support muscle building and strength training, this protein powder ranks 4 out of 5 stars.
The good
Body Fortress protein powder contains Super Advanced 100 % Whey Protein. This kind of protein will aid in muscle building and gains during strength training. It also has BCAA’s which aids in muscle recovery.
This protein powder also contains Chain Amino Acids which assist with muscle bulking. It also has an abundance of added Vitamins and Minerals. Many consumers like the way it mixes. While others say it gives them a boost of energy for their workouts.
**This product was used for strength training and muscle gains with moderate success.
The Bad
Body Fortress is great if you are looking to lose weight than this protein is not for you. It has a moderate amount of protein at 60G and contains mass building components for people that are involved in strength training and looking to gain mass. Not bad if you’re wanting to bulk up!
More protein means more calories which are not ideal for weight loss. This product doesn’t offer a variety of flavors as it only comes in Vanilla, Strawberry, and Chocolate. Whey protein is not isolate, as it contains Whey concentrate as stated it says it is 100%. Many consumers claim that it has an artificial sweetener taste and claim it to bad to taste.
The Bottom Line
If you’re looking for a bulking product that is budget-friendly Body Fortress is your go-to. IT comes in at just $33.88 for a 5 lb. tub which is a really GREAT price! IF your looking for better taste skip the product. This is not a weight loss protein.

MRE lite comes from the REDCON1 line and truly offers a lot of nutritious value to nearly every product that they have. They offer a whole line of protein powders in a wide variety of flavors. They also offer muscle gain powders as well. And includes other items like supplements, fat burners and many other products to speed up your progress.
The good
MRE Lite has very good taste especially the Snickerdoodle protein powder. This protein powder has only 2 G of sugar, 24 G of protein is low carb. Packed with nutritious portions of egg powder, brown rice, chicken, beef and pea powder and many other whole foods. This Protein powder is made with MCT and coconut oils and has properties that allow for easy digestion. Priced right for the amount of protein that you get at 1.31/ounce and nearly 2 pounds of protein.
The bad
MRE Lite has animal-based protein which may not be ideal for Vegans. It claims to be Keto friendly and low carb. Yet it does contain oats, milk, and brown rice, which is not keto-friendly (just my opinion). In just 8 oz of protein powder, it has 134 calories which seems like a lot if your counting calories. Hard to mix in a shaker cup and is very sweet.
The bottom line
With MRE’s line of superb products made with whole foods, this protein powder is hard to pass up. It is priced right and has great flavors. Many people have said to have lost weight with this product as well and are very highly rated by its consumers.
It’s rated a 3 on this list because of the results that I got with it. On the contrary, if you’re looking to bulk up REDCON1 offers a great line. It has had a lot of rave about the products on their website.

Slim Fast Keto is great on so many levels! It is definitely a step up from the original Slim fast version (which I also loved). Slim fast keto has many different options for weight loss. Heck, they even offer a diabetic protein shake! I did not know that! You can also get snacks, meal bars, and premade shakes. Score all around!
The good
Slim fast keto is definitely Keto approved! And In my book, it totally ranks in the top 5 Best Protein Powders for weight loss. Slim Fast Keto is made with Whey and Collagen protein. It has Grass-fed butter included as well as MCT oils. With a wide range of flavors (my fave Cake Batter) that taste absolutely divine, you will definitely find one you love.
For keto peeps, it packs 15 G of fat which is great for the keto diet. IT has no artificial sweeteners and is gluten-free. It has 5 G of Carbs and 8 G of Protein. Slim fast keto has amazing flavor and super easy to mix. Slim fast keto also keeps you fuller longer. I felt full for a good 4 plus hours before I needed a little snack. Priced right at 1.23/ounce.
The bad
Slim fast keto is super thick when mixed with almond milk or coconut milk. It calls for 8-10 ounces of liquid and if you use the required amount it can be very thick. For people that are on a Keto diet, the protein content is a pitfall because there are only 8 grams of protein. MEH!
This protein powder also comes in a very small container and you only get 12 ounces of powder. When using the required two scoops a day, you run out very quickly.
The bottom line
Slim Fast Keto is a great protein powder for people using the Keto Diet. It has great attributes to its powder. Such as the grass-fed butter and MCTs and an even more generous amount of fat at 15G. This is an amazing protein.
It tastes great and keeps you full. But if not on a strict keto diet or following one it may not be good for you. I used it in conjunction with the other keto products and found amazing results in a short period of time!! It definitely deserves a spot in the top 5 protein powders for weight loss! Definitely one to go back to!

Skinny Jane is more like a hidden gem. That is why it is rated #1 in our top five protein powders for amazing reasons! Actually, I found this product by accident while scrolling google. I was researching ways to get rid of baby weight. While pregnant with my second child I gained quite a lot of weight. A lot more than was necessary so I needed a way to drop some pounds.
Skinny jane has a very unique way of losing weight. With a big line of tea, cleanses, and even a meal plan, this product was very beneficial for losing weight. It even can help bust through a plateau!
The good
Skinny jane offers a wide variety of flavors in protein powder and the taste is GREAT!! It mixes well in a shaker bottle. You can even add other items like fruit or peanut butter, which makes it more delicious. It has a great mix of 7 different protein powders. These include Whey concentrate, isolate, and casein to help reach your weight loss potential.
Skinny jane offers something called time-released proteins. These proteins release when you need it most to keep you feeling fuller longer (which is what we want)! Having a protein powder that also has fiber and 20 G of protein that is only 90 calories! That is amazing! Definitely a must-buy! It is low in sugar at only 2 G per serving which means its KETO and low carb friendly! Skinny Jane also increases energy and suppresses appetite which in turn boosts metabolism and speeds up weight loss.
The bad
Not much bad to say about this product! As it holds true to its word and allows for a speedy weight loss. The only downside I see is the price. You can only get one size in the protein powder which is 1.5 lbs. Or 30 servings and seems to go quite fast if drinking 1-2 shakes per day.
The price is a little steep at 1.79/ounce it is a tab pricey. On the contrary, the only downside that I see in Skinny jane is that it claims to have numerous nutritious properties. However, none are listed in the ingredients on the bag. So, that would be a nice attribute to see what all this protein powder has to offer.
The bottom line
Skinny Jane has such a great line of products with many different options to choose, from cleanses, fat burners, protein powders, teas and much more. It offers a great Skinny map that paves the way for success with lots of menu options as well. Losing a total of 13 pounds this was definitely #1 for me in all of the Protein powders that we tried for weight loss. We can only bet that it will be for you as well!
